Guess what?
I write under the assumption that you've seen the episode if you go past the page-break, which is only visible if you're on the home-page of the blog. Any other way, you must have clicked directly here, in which case, there is your error. I do not give a synopsis, I give a critical reaction.
What an episode. Unless they really step it up in the series, this one will probably be my third favourite, with "Into the Dalek" and "Kill the Moon" taking first and second, but it is really pretty much a toss-up as to which gets which.
What this episode asks is a simple question: when is it OK to lie? Is it ever okay? The answer it gives us is confusing: "Yes, but only when you actually end up being right."
What this episode also did is break all the tropes established this season thus far. Look at the Bingo: centre is a free space, basically every episode since 2005 has had a sonic screwdriver, the TARDIS' phone was only mentioned as having been used, and references to the past of Doctor Who is quite common. The only thing is just that, "a thing." If you ask me, its a good thing. The punchlines and the conventions of the episodes were all starting to be the same ones. Good job, Doctor Who, good job. Kudos for moving on. Hopefully.
And then there's what I want to avoid talking about, but know I must: Clara, and her lack of ttruthfulness We see her very bothered to tell Maisie that even though she is the next victim of the Foretold, that the Doctor can save her, Clara probably quite believing that that is very far from being at all true. Then, at the end, she has no problem lying to the Doctor that Danny is alright with her continuing her travels with the Doctor. Yes, our cries for character development have be heard! But perhaps not in the right way.
